If you give a moose a muffin...

If you give a moose a muffin he'll want some jam to go with it.

So you'll bring out some of your mother's homemade blackberry jam.

When he is finished eating the muffin, he will want another. And another.

Basically that moose will eat you out of house and home- so Charles and I ate him first.

He was DELICIOUS.

I actually MADE this meal! I am so proud of myself!
Charles gets credit for BBQing it, taking the photo, and pouring himself a glass of wine.
Moose steak marinade

2 tablespoons lemon juice
¾ teaspoon salt
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
¼ cup minced onion
1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sause
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Combine ¼ cup of the Worcestershire sauce with the oil, lemon juice, salt, onion, and garlic until well mixed.
Put the steak in a plastic bag or tight-fitting bowl. Pour the marinade over the steak and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Put the steak in a plastic bag or tight-fitting bowl. Pour the marinade over the steak and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

Remove the steak from the marinade and grill it over hot charcoal for 7 to 10 minutes per side, brushing it occasionally with the leftover marinade after boiling it for 5 minutes. After they are cooked let the steaks sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the juices to settle back to the outside of the steak- it ads flavor.

Melt the butter in a small pan and stir in the parsley and the teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.
Pour this over the grilled steak, slice, and serve. This mixture also tastes really good poured over any veggies you are serving. I poured a little over the broccoli, as well as the sauteed mushrooms and onions (that were placed on the steak) to add some flavor.

(Leanne, I am sorry. Just pretend this is a tofu recipe!)

This post is dedicated to all the men who don't bring their woman flowers and instead present them with two chunks of "mystery meat" seal on an unlabeled, slightly bloody Styrofoam tray wrapped in a Canadian Tire bag. This post is further dedicated to those same men who allow their woman to think they are preparing and consuming beef steak and then once they are 3/4 of the way done their meal, and have admitted it is delicious, inform them they have just consumed Barney the moose. Men, we salute you!

Urine? Im out.

While many of you are currently spending Thanksgiving weekend stuffing yourselves silly on various foods, Charles and I thought we would break the monotony of stereotypical Thanksgivings by doing something a little different.

Let me start at the beginning:
Ever since I first came here (last summer, 2009) I have noticed that our bathroom has had an odd smell to it. At first I couldn't figure out what it was, but then finally it hit me. Urine. Every time I would sit on the toilet I could smell well...pee (and not my own!). I decided that the best way to handle it was just to clean the toilet and leave it at that.  So, like the dutiful girlfriend I am, I cleaned that toilet, then stood back, sniffed the air, and admired my work. Problem solved, right? Wrong. The smell came back with a vengeance.

After complaining one too many times to Charles he decided to shush me and tackle the problem himself. For those of you who know Charles, you know that he almost certainly comes up with the most unique solutions to problems. The mystery of the toilet bowl funk was no exception.

Hmmm.
He carefully set up his arsenal- Clorox bleach, Natures Miracle (anyone who has worked in a pet store will appreciate that one!), Clorox clean-up, and Lysol.

Next he pulled out his tools- rubber gloves, sand paper, a knife, and a snake light with a mirror on the end.
The toilet lid and seat were removed and placed in the bathtub to soak in bleach and water, as were the bolts holding it all together.

Then (and most importantly) the source of the stink was sought out and discovered by using the snake light and  mirror to explore under the rim of the toilet. What we saw can only be described as what you would expect to find under the rim of a toilet in an apartment that has probably seen its fair share of drunken college parties in a building that is approximately 30 years old.

Although I have tried cleaning under there before using a basic scrubbing sponge and cleaner, it never seemed to be able to successfully rid us of the stink. And so, Charles pulled out the big guns. He used the knife, a scouring pad, and sand paper to scrub the underside the of rim, all the time keeping track of progress by watching in the mirror.

When satisfactory progress was reached the toilet was put back together. Behold! A toilet (hopefully) clean enough to eat next Thanksgiving dinner off of!

It is moments like this that remind me why I love this guy....and for that, I am thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Everybody quiet! I have something important to say!

As you have probably noticed this isnt a Facebook page, and no amount of wishing on your part will change that. I think the most enduring feature of this Blog is the fact that I am limited to choosing 100 (and no more!) people with whom I get to share my deepest, most innermost, boring thoughts. As of right now the numbers of "friends" are low, but as word of my blog travels I am sure the requests to be added will just start pouring it. At that time I will probably have to start purging the people who are reading my Blog in order to either make themselves feel better about their life, or create unneeded relationship drama- because at that point in time my Blog will have become much like Facebook for comfort.

I have a feeling however that it is going to take me a decent amount of time to reach 100 friends. As of yet my time in Fredericton has yielded 0 new friends. Infact, my contact with the outside world is pretty much limited to my 2 hours at the gym and conversing with the landlord, or the person ringing me through at Sobeys. I have become so desperate for a friend (besides Cleo and Charles..) that I let a girl  in the parking lot of the apartment back her car directly into mine so that we might engage in pleasantries and exchange contact information! My plan almost worked except for the fact that she was totally devastated that she annihilated my passenger side door and proceeded to start crying. I sense she will be too full of drama for my liking and so my search for a friend continues.

For those of you who are unable to read between the lines, I didnt actually LET someone smash into my car. I was driving through the parkinglot, minding my own business, and almost had a heart attack when the two cars collided. Maybe it is just me, but whenever I have been in a car accident I become the most optimistic. I think to myself, "Oh, the damage cant possibly be that bad...it was just a giant crunch that threw my car lurching to the side...". Yeah well, here is a news flash, it always is that bad, if not sometimes worse, than you expect.

Above you is what $2500 worth of damage looks like. I wish I could have recorded what $2500 worth of damage SOUNDED like, because there is nothing quite like the sound of some solid metal on metal to get one's heart racing...

And just for fun, and to show how unfair life can REALLY be- here is what her back end looked like.

Perhaps if there is a bright side to this all it is that since I now am insured under New Brunswick and not Manitoba it means that I didnt have to deal with MPI. Aside from the initial fury that consumed when when I first saw my side door the entire process was easy and hassle free, one might say even pleasant. Anyways, thank god for insurance (good, non public insurance), the car gets fixed on Oct 25th, at 0 cost to me. In the mean time I get to drive around feeling slightly paranoid and hoping that people dont judge me as a bad driver or less of a human being based on the unsightliness of  my passenger side door.
